Discover how the Underground Railroad connected Chicago-area communities and brought Civil War “contrabands” to Elgin by boxcar. Project 2-3-1 explores the struggles and resilience of Elgin’s African American heritage from the 1800s to today. Join Elgin History Museum Director Elizabeth Marston for film excerpts and insights into the abolition movement, the Liberty Party, and the fight for progress.
